Special thanks...

“This house, this place, this hotel, exciting, delicate, with a great personality is the product of a lifetime project and a dream come true… Some people say it's crazy! With pleasure and from the bottom of my heart, I dedicate this to Jean Claude, my mother, my father, my sister, my nieces Juliette and Célia and my brother-in-law.” I love you all… Laurence

Located on San Pedro Mártir Street, which in 1808 was known as Nuestra Señora de Egipto Street (named for the sunrise and sunset seen then there, which were reminiscent of Egyptian deserts.) San Pedro Mártir Street was created along with the construction of the San Pedro Mártir bastion between 1721 and 1730 by the homonymous Dominican preacher and inquisitor.

  • Its courtyard and corridors have a long history; here families grew up, full of life. Situated on the privileged San Pedro Mártir street in the traditional San Diego district, this colonial Andalusian-style house with a Roman Doric door and private balconies, it takes us to the past, when there were noble neighbours such as Miguel Quero, an earl who lived in Cartagena, and Don Benito, a powerful ship owner-trader of the colonial era. Its first owner was Don Pedro Romero, a rich Cuban mulatto, who purchased it for 890 pesos at that time to live there with his wife and three daughters. All of them celebrated their weddings here, marrying distinguished gentlemen from the city. Apart from the wedding ceremonies, the house has also witnessed historic events. The triumph of the Spanish general Don Sancho Jimeno against the black revolt in 1790 was celebrated here. After Don Pedro, it had nine more owners until Mr Luis Ludia, from Turkey, who lived here with his whole family until 1990 and converted the house into a famous bakery called “Ludia”. Now, Laurence Marais, of French origin, has once again opened the doors of this historic house, converted into the San Pedro Hotel Spa for you to enjoy and experience. The lion's head that welcomes you, the symbol of prestige, is the beginning of the journey.
